Укладачі рейтингу The World’s 50 Best вважають, сама ідея гостинності побудована на простому принципі, коли одні люди (кухарі, ресторатори і бармени тощо) дають іншим людям радість за допомогою смаку та щирих емоцій.

Цей принцип працює для всіх людей — незалежно від раси, кольору шкіри, національності чи сексуальної орієнтації. «Визнаємо, що жорстокість поліції має бути засуджена, а голоси людей з темною шкірою у світі гастрономії мають бути почутими», — йдеться у зверненні.

50 Best stands with the black community in the fight against systemic racism and police brutality. Black lives, Black voices and Black pain matter. As a team comprising members of different nationalities and cultures, we are stepping back to educate ourselves on issues of racism and the persecution of the black community. We have come to the painful and overdue realisation that we have not done enough to support black people in our sector. 50 Best is a platform that represents the gastronomic sector, so we need to be at the heart of transformation; we must use our position to help lead the community on a path of progressive change. We acknowledge that the lists we create feature too few black cooks and bartenders. The ecosystem we are part of comprises all manner of ethnicity, colour, faith, gender identity and much more. Indeed, hospitality is one of the most diverse industries and we will expand our efforts in highlighting this. We will work harder to amplify the voices of black chefs, bartenders, producers and hospitality staff. 50 Best will launch a series of features with black writers, cooks, bartenders, and hospitality workers, giving a voice to this underrepresented community. We will also undertake research into issues of inclusivity within restaurant and bar businesses, which will help us plan a way forward. We commit to using our platform to help fight for equality. Moreover, we are aware that the black community has been hit disproportionately hard by coronavirus. This fact will help shape the distribution of funds in our 50 Best for Recovery campaign. We know that articles, research and posts won’t solve systemic racism or police brutality, but we pledge to play our part in solving what is a much bigger issue.
